Tarot, answered
Common questions about Tarotena, how the readings work, and what tarot can and can't do for you.
Is Tarotena really free?
Yes. Every reading, every card, every spread is free to use. There is no paywall, no premium tier, and no membership. We don't sell your readings or your data.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Tarotena has no accounts, no logins, and no email signup. You can come, draw a card, and leave — nothing follows you.
How are the cards chosen?
When you start a spread, your browser shuffles a virtual 78-card deck and deals from it using your computer's built-in random number generator. Every reading is a fresh shuffle — no two readings draw the same cards in the same order.
Are reversed cards included?
Yes. Around half the cards in each spread land reversed, and their interpretations shift accordingly. Each card page on the site also has a full reversed meaning so you can look it up on its own.
Are my readings saved?
No. Readings live in your browser tab only. Close the tab and they're gone — we don't store them anywhere. If you'd like to keep a reading, take a screenshot or copy the interpretation while it's on screen.
Can tarot predict the future?
We don't think so, and we don't recommend using it that way. Tarot is at its best as a tool for reflection — a way of surfacing what you already sense and looking at it from a different angle. The cards don't decide what happens; you do.
What kind of question should I ask?
Open-ended questions tend to draw the richest readings. "What do I need to see about this situation?" is more useful than "Will I get the job?" — the first invites the cards to show you something, the second asks them for a verdict they can't really give.
Which spread should I pick?
For a quick check-in, the Daily Draw or 3-Card spread are perfect. For relationships, try the Relationship or Love spread. For decisions, the Decision spread maps two options side by side. The Celtic Cross is the deepest reading on the site and works well for big questions you've been sitting with for a while.
Which deck does Tarotena use?
The Rider-Waite-Smith deck — the most widely used and referenced tarot system in the English-speaking world. It's the deck most modern guides and online resources draw on, so the meanings here will line up with what you've read elsewhere.
Can I use tarot for medical, legal, or financial decisions?
Please don't. Tarotena is for reflection and entertainment only. For medical, legal, financial, or mental-health decisions, please consult a qualified professional. See our disclaimer for the full picture.
Something on the site looks wrong. What do I do?
