What is a Tarot Spread?

A tarot spread is a layout — a fixed arrangement of card positions that gives each card a specific meaning. Without a spread, a card just says what it says; in a spread, the same card might mean something different depending on whether it lands as Past, Present, Future, Advice, or Outcome. Spreads turn a handful of cards into a coherent reading, and they're the difference between a single-card pull and a full interpretation.

How to Choose a Tarot Spread

For quick check-ins, the daily draw or 3-card spread fit perfectly. For relationships, try the Relationship or Love spread. For decisions, the Decision spread maps two options side by side. For deep, comprehensive readings — questions you've been sitting with — the Celtic Cross is the classic choice. The right spread is usually whichever one matches the shape of your question.

How Tarot Spreads Work on Tarotena

Every spread on the site uses the full 78-card Rider-Waite deck. When you draw, your browser shuffles the deck and deals from it using your computer's built-in random number generator — every reading is a fresh shuffle, and no two readings draw the same cards in the same order. About half the cards land reversed; their interpretations shift accordingly. Each card's position label and meaning shows alongside its image, plus a closing reflection that ties the reading together. No sign-up, no email, no saved readings — close the tab and the reading is yours alone.
